How to scale my workspace?
Last updated: June 13, 2025
Scaling your workspace allows you to change the amount of computational resources (CPU, RAM, Storage, and GPU) allocated to your environment. This flexibility enables you to choose more power for demanding tasks or to save costs on smaller projects. By using the built-in Monitoring tab, you can make an informed decision about when it's time to scale.
Understanding resource plans
Our platform offers several resource plans, each tailored for different needs. While your workspace's plan can be changed, it's helpful to know the options:
Micro: 1 vCPU, 2 GiB Memory, 2 GiB Storage — Ideal for small projects and simple web applications.
Boost: 2 vCPUs, 4 GiB Memory, 25 GiB Storage — A great balance for general development.
Pro: 8 vCPUs, 16 GiB Memory, 100 GiB Storage — Suited for larger applications and more demanding build processes.
T4 GPU: Dedicated GPU, 8 vCPUs, 16 GiB Memory, 100 GiB Storage — Essential for machine learning, AI, and other GPU-accelerated tasks.
Monitoring your resource usage
To decide if you need to scale, you first need to understand your current resource consumption. The Monitoring tab provides real-time graphs for this purpose.
What it shows: You can view detailed graphs for CPU and Memory usage over different time ranges (e.g., "Last 1 hour"). The graphs show the consumption for your IDE itself as well as for each individual service running in your pipeline.
How to use it: Look for the "Limit" line on the graphs. This represents the maximum resources available on your current plan.
Time to scale up: If you notice your CPU or Memory usage is consistently hitting this limit, causing your application to slow down or crash, it's a clear indicator that you should upgrade to a larger plan.
Time to scale down: Conversely, if your usage is always very low, you may be able to scale down to a smaller plan to optimize costs.
How to change your workspace plan
Open your workspace: Navigate to the workspace you wish to scale.
Locate the resource settings: In the main IDE view, find the Setup panel.
Select a new plan: Your current plan will be highlighted. Click on the list or dropdown menu to view all available plans. Select the new plan you want to switch to (e.g., upgrade from "Boost" to "Pro").
Apply the changes: After selecting a new plan, click on Update plan to save the changes. Your workspace will likely restart to be provisioned with the new resources. Your billing will be updated automatically to reflect the new plan.
Scaling deployed services
The same scaling principle applies to your deployed applications in the CI Pipeline. Each service defined in your Run stage has its own independent resource plan. This allows for fine-grained control over your production environment, ensuring you only pay for what your application truly needs.
